This evening, the enhanced forces of the Corinthian Chamber Orchestra under the baton of Paul Hoskins open their performance with Wagner’s overture to his great opera Tannhäuser, followed by Strauss’s Four Last Songs – a work that has penetrated the collective psyche of many music lovers – performed by celebrated Australian-born soprano, Helena Dix. The orchestra will conclude the evening with Schoenberg, a composer who insisted that his works were evolutionary rather than revolutionary, with clear roots in the German romantic tradition. His reverent arrangement of Brahms’s G minor piano quartet will allow you to be the judge.
