Adriana Festeu, mezzo-soprano

Romanian mezzo soprano Adriana Festeu began her musical education at the age of six with lessons in piano, at the Arts Lyceum in Brasov, Romania. Having graduated with a first class Batchelor of Music degree from the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj, she moved to London in September 2007 to undertake postgraduate study at the Royal Academy of Music. She is currently in her second year with Royal Academy Opera, where she studies with Lillian Watson and Audrey Hyland.

Adriana made her operatic debut for the Romanian National Opera in 2005 as Fidalma in Cimarosa’s Il matrimonio segretto, and has made subsequent appearances for the company as Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro under the baton of Victor Dumnascu, Madame Nolan in Menotti’s The Medium and Zerlina in Don Giovanni, conducted by Emil Maxim. Last year she sang Candida in Donizetti’s Emilia di Liverpool for the European Opera Centre, conducted by Giovanni Pacor – a tour which took her to Bremen and St. George’s Hall in Liverpool. For Royal Academy Opera, she has sung the role of Wife in Shostakovich’s Paradise Moscow, Endimione in Cavalli’s La Calisto and the Sandman in Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel.

Adriana has taken part in masterclasses given by, amongst others, Mariana Nicolesco, Horiana Branisteanu, Ileana Contrubas, Ann Murray, Yvonne Kenny and José Cura. In 2008 she was invited to participate in the Solti Accademia di Bel Canto, where she studied with Kiri te Kanawa and Frederica von Stade.

On the concert platform, Adriana has sung in opera galas in Romania, France and Italy. Her concert repertoire includes: Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle; Pergolesi’s Stabat mater; Mozart’s Requiem and Vesperae solennes de confessore; Gounod’s Missa Brevis and Vivaldi’s Gloria. She has performed a number of song cycles, including Mahler’s Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen and Enescu’s Sept chansons de Clément Marot.
