Hugh Seenan, french horn

Hugh Seenan is one of the United Kingdom’s most distinguished horn players. Born in Glasgow Scotland, he studied horn at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with Anthony Halstead, Anthony Chidell and David Cripps. At the age of twenty he joined the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and in 1979 he was appointed Principal Horn of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

In 1984 he joined the London Symphony Orchestra. He resigned his position in 1997 after twelve years as Principal Horn and he is now in great demand as a solo horn player, teacher and brass consultant. He has been Professor of Horn at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London for the past 20 years and he has given master classes in the USA, Japan, France, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and in the UK with the National Youth Orchestra and the National Youth Brass Band. He has played horn for over two hundred movie soundtracks including Aliens, Braveheart, Deep Impact, Gladiator and the Mask of Zorro.

In 1999 he was made a Fellow of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and in February 2001 he was elected Honorary Chairman of the British Horn Society. Hugh appears as a soloist on the 'London Horn Sound' CD for Cala Records.
