Joining the CCO

Current vacancies

We are currently fortunate to have a regular, committed membership, but vacancies do arise from time to time in all sections of the orchestra. Also, not all of our players can play in every concert, and for some concerts we need extra players, so it's worth registering with us for a trial whenever we have space.

We expect all of our players to be of a post grade-8 standard, and have substantial orchestral playing experience. If you don't have recent playing experience but are a strong player, please call us to discuss a way forward. It may be that you can come along to some rehearsals in order to get back into the swing of things. Alternatively, we can put you in touch with other orchestras in London that may be suitable.

Auditions and trials

We do not generally run formal auditions. However, if you have little recent experience but still feel that you may be suitable for the CCO, we may request that you attend for an audition. As part of its constitution, the CCO reviews its membership annually, and reserves the right to re-audition any players at the discretion of the committee.

Having discussed your experience and availability for a rehearsal schedule, you will normally be asked to play on a trial with the orchestra. You will be observed at your first rehearsal by the leader and section principal. For strings, this often involves spending part of the rehearsal on the front desk. If you are successful, you will be invited to play in the concert on a trial basis.
