Simon Brown

Simon's love of music germinated and was nurtured in rural north Hertfordshire, from where he went on to study violin at the Royal Academy of Music, and musicology at King’s College, London, winning an Organ Scholarship there.

Attracted by the idea of working in the music business, Simon joined the BBC in 1986, initially working for the BBC Proms. Still at the BBC, he is a Contracts & Rights Manager, having specialised in copyright and performers' rights, and now responsible for the BBC's negotiations with the Musicians' Union.

Music and playing violin continue to be an important part of Simon's life, especially chamber music and opera – he has performed in over 50 different operas, mostly with Chelsea Opera Group.
