We begin our 14-15 season with a varied programme of works by twentieth century composers, under conductor Mike Seal, who makes his debut with CCO. Mahler's beautifully moving and prophetic Kindertotenlieder provide the centrepiece of the concert, sung by mezzo soprano, Marta Fontanals-Simmons. Either side are Berio's Rendering, brilliant reworking of the fragments of Schubert's D major symphony, and Shostakovich's exuberant Ninth Symphony.
